Back in July, we asked for your help in creating Christmas stockings for local inmates – and now it’s time to stuff them!

For the last 12 years, HELP Inc. has coordinated a wonderful program for area correctional facilities (men’s, women’s and youth), taking various donated candies and placing them in hand-made stockings, along with a message of faith and inspiration.  The correctional facilities pass out these care packages to the inmates around Christmas Eve to let them know that they are not alone for the holidays – and that their prayers are being heard.  Many do not have family or get any visitors, and especially around the holidays it can be very difficult.  Even a small token and gesture of caring goes a long way in lifting their spirits.

The correctional facilities are very strict on everything being exactly the same in each stocking. As a result, the items we can accept are limited to the following items only:

  • Peppermint candies (Starlight Mints)
  • Miniature Tootsie Rolls
  • Snickers standard sized candy bars – 1.86 ounces
  • Quaker Chewy Granola bars
  • Cheese crackers with peanut butter
  • Mott’s Fruit Snacks (gummys)

You can bring these treats to the for KING & Country concert on November 10, or you can drop them off at:

We’ll also be having “Stocking Stuffer Stops” at two locations around the Omaha metro area:

Can you use a bag of miniature Tootsie Rolls?

    1. Pete Berg says:

Yes, that is one of the items that can be donated.

  • When and will you stuff the stockings? I want to help. I’ll also be bringing candy to For King and Country on Sunday. Thank you for spreading the message of God.

Hi, Kerrie! The folks at Help Inc will be putting the stockings together after Thanksgiving – probably the 1st 2 weeks of December. If you’d like to volunteer to help you can reach them at (402) 341-6559. They open at 9 am. 🙂 — Jill Tracey, Mornings

Do any of these items go to the Lancaster County Corrections dept. also? If not, do you know of an organization that does? I live in Lancaster County and want to make sure they are supported too.

    1. Jill Tracey says:

Hi, Karen! I just talked with Tom at Help Inc – they do not go as far as Lancaster Country. There are around 14 locations in the Omaha area and one in Red Oak that they will be delivering the stockings to this Christmas Season! – Jill

Do you still need stockings? Mine got made and not delivered.

    1. Jill Tracey says:

Hi, Marsha! YES!!! Tom Neal says they will still accept stockings. You can take them directly to Help Inc at Center Mall, 1941 S 42nd St #200, Omaha, NE 68105. Their number is (402) 341-6559 and they close at 5 pm. 🙂 Thank you!!!

I got a simple pattern from “HELP”.
Looks like wrong sides are sewn together, cut with pinking shears. I was told to make them 14″. Is this what you did?
